NBA Western Conference Finals Betting Preview: Golden State Warriors vs. Houston Rockets

The Golden State Warriors will host the Houston Rockets in game 4 of the Western Conference Finals. The Warriors lead the series, 2-1, after blowing out the Rockets 126-85 in game 3. The two teams split the first two games in Houston.

This highly anticipated playoff series has lacked the excitement of close games through the first three contests. Both teams feature a high powered offense, but each game has seen one team dominating the opponent. Houston hopes to take back home court advantage with a game 4 win. The Warriors are -8.5 over the Rockets in game 4.

Curry Returns to Form

Stephen Curry struggled shooting the ball through the first two games of this series, but the Warriors weren’t concerned about his play. Curry bounced back in a huge way in game 3, finishing with a game high 35 points and burying the Rockets with 18 points in the third quarter. A confident Curry spells trouble for the Houston Rockets.

The Warriors shot a blistering 52.2% from the field in game 3, and also shot 40.6% from deep. The Rockets are not a good defensive team, and Golden State took advantage in a big way in the victory. Golden State also forced Houston in committing 19 turnovers in game 3 and held the Rockets to just 39.5% shooting. The Warriors will be looking to take control of the series with a game 4 victory.

Houston Falls Flat in Game 3

Houston struggled on both ends of the floor in game 3, and they were unable to keep up with the Warriors. Houston appeared to quit on the defensive end in game 3, and gave up 72 second half points to the Warriors. The Rockets have been unable to find someone to stop Kevin Durant in this series, and now it appears that Stephen Curry is going to be a problem for them.

James Harden and Chris Paul combined for just 33 points in game 3, which is well short of their playoff averages. The Rockets need more production from their star players. Coach Mike D’Antoni wants his team to score early in the shot clock and Harden and Paul need to be more aggressive in game 4. The Rockets don’t defend, so they are going to have to score a ton of points to win.

Rockets Can’t Slow Down Warriors

If Houston can’t figure out a way to defend the Warriors, the Rockets don’t have a chance to knock off the defending champs. Houston was able to outshoot the Warriors in game 2, but that strategy won’t work very often. The Warriors now have all of the momentum in this series, and Houston must find a way to slow them down.

Stephen Curry will be looking to lead his team to a 3-1 series lead after breaking out of his shooting slump in game 3. The Warriors dominated the Rockets on both sides of the ball while rolling to their most lopsided victory in franchise history. The Rockets will be more competitive in game 4, but it won’t be enough to slow down the Warriors. Bet the Golden State Warriors -8.5 in game 4.
