As the NBA draws closer to a return each day, we await the games to come. And of course, there is the business of teams finishing filling out their rosters for the league’s reboot.
Here are a few players that have either secured new contracts or are drawing interest.
Rockets Taking Look At Johnson
Tyler Johnson, an undrafted guard out of Fresno State, was a surprise with the Miami Heat, where he secured a role as a hard-working guard that can play both backcourt positions. He signed a four-year, $50 million contract after a few solid seasons, with most of the money tied to the final few years on the deal.
He was not too good for the Suns this year, however, and so they eventually just decided to cut ties. He’s still capable of putting in good work on both ends, and the Rockets are considering adding him with one of their open roster spots. He won’t get too many minutes, but he’d be a nice addition to their locker room.
Grizzlies Looking To Deal With Tolliver
Anthony Tolliver has bounced from team to team since making his NBA debut with the Spurs in 2008-09. In all, he’s played for 10 teams, with multiple stints in various places. He is a big man that can step out and knock the three down while proving to be a solid veteran presence.
He isn’t somebody that makes the difference between a contender and a pretender, but in the Grizzlies’ case, he’ll add nice depth behind Jaren Jackson Jr. and Brandon Clarke. He’s capable of being a good mentor for those young guys and would be worth having around.
Like Johnson, his role would also be small. But considering that he spent some time with them before the stoppage, it’d be smart to keep him around, as they plan to. They’re the front-runners to nab him.
The Return of Noah
After a solid role with the Grizzlies in the second half of last season, Joakim Noah was not on an NBA roster when the 2019-20 season began. But that will change when things re-open, as the Clippers will be signing him to a deal for the rest of the season when his 10-day contract expires on June 23.
He was an All-Star in Chicago and a monumental bust in New York. And there will be no pressure for him playing on a Clippers team that expects to win the title. With Ivica Zubac and Montrezl Harrell cemented as the top two centers, he’ll be able to add terrific leadership and possibly short spurts on the floor.
The fact that he’s been a focal point on a contending team before makes him a welcome addition. The locker room is filled with guys that have championship experience, and it’ll help them out in a big way. It’s also great for Noah that he’s now healthy and back in the game.
Noah will not wow you on the floor, but he will have a serious impact off the stat sheets.
