NBA Friday: New Orleans Pelicans at Oklahoma City Thunder

The New Orleans Pelicans and Oklahoma City Thunder will get together on Friday in the National Basketball Association. As of Thursday – both teams were heading to the postseason – but with 32 games to go, much could change. The New Orleans Pelicans lost DeMarcus Cousins for the season, and have dropped back to back games. The Pelicans are 27-23 on the season, and 1.5 games ahead of Denver for the 7th seed in the West. The Pelicans are 2 games ahead for a postseason berth.

The Oklahoma City Thunder are heading up. Despite their most recent loss to Washington, the Thunder are winners of 8 out of their last 10 games. The Thunder are just 1/2 game behind Minnesota for the fourth seed in the Western Conference. The Thunder are 30-21 on the season. Oklahoma City comes into this game -8.5 over the New Orleans Pelicans on Friday.

The Oklahoma City Thunder added Paul George and Carmelo Anthony in the off-season, which put them as a favorite to contend with the Warriors in the Western Conference. The Pelicans lost to the Clippers and the Kings, and allowed 113 points per game in those two games. That’s been a problem for the Pelicans all season. New Orleans is allowing opponents to score 110.7 points per game, which is 29th out of 30 teams in the league. The offense for New Orleans is one of the top in the league, with their 110.8 points per game.

Anthony Davis is now the lone big man on campus. With Cousins out for the season, Davis with his 26.4 points per game and 10.6 rebounds per game will need to pick up even more of a load. The Pelicans are also getting 18.7 points per game from guard Jrue Holiday.

Thunder Whip Pelicans

The Oklahoma City Thunder are coming off a loss, and now will take on a shorthanded New Orleans team. The harsh reality for the Pelicans is – they should look at rebuilding. Trading Anthony Davis may be the right move to make. The Pelicans are going no where without DeMarcus Cousins. In this game – the mad Thunder come away with a win.
