Monday Night Football Affair: Kansas City Chiefs at Denver Broncos

A divisional rivalry that should provide an exciting matchup for us in week 4, this shows us two QB’s starting for new teams this year. Patrick Mahomes in his first three starts this season has thrown for an NFL record 13 TD passes and distributed them to nine different receivers.

Case Keenum on the other side has thrown 3 TD’s to three receivers, but also thrown five interceptions. He needs to take better care of the football. The run-game is a big part of the Denver Broncos offense. The Broncos are +4 at home against the Chiefs.

Kansas City Chiefs

As we mentioned above, Mahomes has 13 TD passes in three weeks, one more than Peyton’s record of 12 in that span. He has 0 INT’s. Kareem Hunt has slowed down a bit from last year’s pace, with just 168 rushing yards and two TD’s through three games. Tyreek Hill has been on another level, while Travis Kelce and Sammy Watkins have also looked great. Justin Houston, Dee Ford, and Allen Bailey each have two sacks. This is a team that is just starting to come together, and this is a very important test, playing in the high altitude of Denver.

This game proves to be a challenge in itself with just trying to stay healthy throughout the contest, as some NFL players would not even be able to play there. The defense will end up being the ultimate key for KC as if they can put Denver in a hole early on, it could really change things up. Give Mahomes some help on the other side of the ball, and they are unbeatable.

Denver Broncos

Phillip Lindsay, ejected early in the team’s game against the Ravens, has been a yardage machine, the undrafted player being the first ever to start his career with consecutive 100 scrimmage yard performances. Emmanuel Sanders and Demariyus Thomas have done their part, but the same cannot be said of other Broncos WR’s. Von Miller has four of the team’s nine sacks in three games. The “No-Fly Zone” was clearly not working last Sunday, as Joe Flacco absolutely torched them through the air, so they will need to bounce back.

Denver needs to get off to a strong start, and not let the Chiefs come out firing. With the offensive talent on that side of the ball for KC, getting stops early will be vital. Case Keenum will not logically go blow-for-blow with Mahomes, but will need help with the running game, and the defense has to be better. There are too many talented DB’s on this team for them to get torched.

Broncos beat Chiefs, improve to 3-1

Hard to decide on whether or not to call this an upset, but the Broncos will take down the Chiefs on their home field to create a tie atop the division.

Case Keenum will not out-perform Pat Mahomes by any means, but he will have 300 yards and 3 TD’s, and the defense will put the clamps down with the game on the line.
