LSU Tigers at Kentucky Wildcats Betting Preview

LSU Tigers at Kentucky Wildcats Betting Preview

LSU is coming off another disappointing road loss and are running out of opportunities to bolster their resume for the NCAA Tournament.

The Tigers are 2-6 in true road games and have suffered losses to Vanderbilt and South Carolina, two teams below LSU in the standings. Winning Wednesday night may require the Tigers’ best efforts of the season, as Kentucky is 16-0 in Lexington this season.

The Wildcats, who are 22-5 overall and 11-3 in SEC play, still hold out an outside chance of catching Auburn for the regular-season conference title. Kentucky is a 7.5-point favorite, and the over/under for the game has been set at 142 points.

LSU Tigers Betting Preview

When LSU is at its best, the Tigers’ defense makes life difficult for their opponents. LSU limits its opponents to 38.1 percent shooting from the field, which ranks sixth nationally.

Opponents also have a hard time shooting from the perimeter, only allowing them to make 28.2 percent of its 3-point shots, which ranks seventh nationally. LSU also limits its opponents to 61.9 points per game, which ranks 23rd nationally.

Scoring has been difficult at times for LSU this year. Tari Eason leads the team, providing 16.9 points per game off the bench. Darius Days (13.9 points per game) and Brandon Murray (10.2) also average in double figures.

The Tigers, however, have difficulty shooting from long range. LSU makes 32.6 percent of its 3-point shots, which ranks 244th nationally.

Kentucky Wildcats Betting Preview

It’s hard to talk about the Wildcats without talking about the dominance of their star forward Oscar Tshiebwe.

Tshiebwe, who has grabbed ten or more rebounds in 14 straight games, leads the country in rebounding by pulling down 15.2 boards per game in addition to scoring 16.4 points per game. His play signifies how tough it is to pound the glass against Kentucky, as the Wildcats outrebounded their opponents by an average of 10.7 per game.

The Wildcats, though, aren’t a grit-and-grind defensive team by any stretch of the imagination. In Kentucky’s last game against Alabama, the Wildcats won a wild shootout against Alabama 90-81. The Wildcats rank ninth nationally by scoring 80.9 points per game.

Kentucky also shoots 48.7 percent from the field, which ranks 10th nationally. The Wildcats are 20-0 this season when shooting a higher field goal percentage than their opponents.

LSU Tigers at Kentucky Wildcats Betting Prediction

The Tigers showed they are capable of shutting down Kentucky by scoring a 65-60 home win over the Wildcats earlier this season. However, LSU has shown great difficulty in playing away from home. The Wildcats, meanwhile, have won eight of their past nine games and have started to establish themselves as a top team nationally.

Playing in Lexington, expect Kentucky to be too much for LSU, which is treading water to stay above .500 in LSU play. The Wildcats need to continue to stay up wins to stay in the running to grab a top seed in the NCAA Tournament.
