Houston Astros at Boston Red Sox Betting Preview

The Boston Red Sox helped to cool down the Houston Astros by winning Monday’s series opener against one of the hottest teams in baseball. The teams meet again on Tuesday, with both teams having a moneyline of -110. The is also an over/under nine runs.

Despite losing on Monday, the Astros have still won 12 of their last 14 games. They’ve undoubtedly been the best team during the month of May. Despite their recent hot streak, the Astros are still tied with the Angels atop the AL West, so they can’t afford to make losing a habit.

Meanwhile, the Red Sox will take any win they can get. Of course, after suffering a five-game losing streak earlier this month, Boston has won four of six. In fact, Monday’s win got the Red Sox out of last place in the AL East, although they remain seven games under .500 and 12 games out of first place.

Nate the Great

The Red Sox will look to Nathan Eovaldi to help them keep it going on Tuesday. With injuries to multiple starters, Boston is looking at Eovaldi as the team’s ace for the moment. In seven starts this year, he is just 1-1 but has a strong 3.15 ERA with the Red Sox going 2-5 in games that he starts.

Of course, Boston’s lineup should get some of the blame for the Red Sox being Eovaldi on the mound. The good news is the Red Sox have scored at least six runs in four of their last six games, winning all four of those games.

The trio of Rafael Devers, Xander Bogaerts, and J.D. Martinez has been crushing it all year, but nobody else in the Boston lineup has produced with any consistency outside of a recent power surge from Trevor Story.

Everyone Is a Winner

Jose Urquidy will attempt to get the Astros back on track after Monday’s loss. Urquidy has been solid if unspectacular in 2022, going 2-1 with a 4.40 ERA over six starts. But after an uneven April, Urquidy has allowed just one run on nine hits over his last nine innings of work.

Meanwhile, there has been nothing wrong with the Houston lineup this year, as the Astros have averaged 6.1 runs per game over their last eight games.

Yordan Alvarez has led in the power department, already mashing 11 homers this season with four other players hitting at least five home runs. Yuli Gurriel and Michael Brantley are not among those players, although both have heated up lately, giving Houston’s lineup even more depth.

Astros/Red Sox Betting Prediction

As the betting odds indicate, this game could easily go either way, as Eovaldi gives Boston a slight edge on the mound, although the Red Sox have struggled to win his starts this season. For the Astros, Monday’s loss isn’t necessarily a sign of things to come, especially with the way their lineup has performed this season.

Since the Red Sox only have three or four reliable options in their lineup, the Astros are the safe pick to win on Tuesday.
