Favorites Take Hold of NCAA Week 5 Action

It was a weekend of favorites winning in NCAA Football Week 5 action. There was not a result that shook up the College Football world. Let’s take a look at some of the best results for the Week 5 slate:

While there were no big upsets, there was a win on Friday night from the 19th-ranked team over the 10th-ranked team. DJ Uiagalelei threw for 204 yards and a touchdown, while the Oregon State Beavers defense held Utah to just a fourth-quarter touchdown to win the game. It was the first loss of the season for the Utes.

Title Contenders All Stay Alive

The top-ranked Georgia Bulldogs were on the ropes for much of the game. But, in the end, the road Bulldogs came away with the win. Brock Bowers was unstoppable for Auburn, finishing with eight receptions, 157 yards, and a touchdown.

The third-ranked Texas Longhorns started a little slow and led just 13-7 at halftime but blew the doors off the Kansas Jayhawks in the second half. Texas won the second half 27-7 and are now 5-0 on the season. The loss for the Kansas Jayhawks was their first of the season.

Penn State started slow as well. It was tied 10-10 against a Northwestern team that many project not to win another game all season. But, the Nittany Lions, ranked sixth in the most recent Associated Press poll, won the second half 31-3 to come away with a 41-13 win. The Nittany Lions are now 5-0.

Michael Penix Jr. and the Washington Huskies won their fifth straight game. The Huskies went to Arizona and beat the Wildcats 31-24. The Heisman candidate did not throw a touchdown pass in the game but wrapped up with 363 passing yards.

Staying in the Pac-12 – the USC Trojans remained unbeaten as well. After leading the Colorado Buffaloes 34-14 at home, the Trojans laid off the gas a little too much and only beat the Buffaloes 48-41. It was the second straight loss for Coach Sanders and his Colorado squad.

Thrilling Evening

One of the day’s best games saw Notre Dame beat Duke 21-14. Duke led 14-13 in the final minutes before Sam Hartman led his Irish into the end zone and converted the two-point conversion. The loss for Duke was also awful, with the loss of Riley Leonard late in the game. It was the first loss for the Blue Devils this season.

The other best game of the day was the Ole Miss Rebels beating the LSU Tigers. It was the second loss of the season for Brian Kelly and his Tigers. Ole Miss scored late in the game, getting a stop to seal the deal.

The win for the Rebels was big for them as they were coming off a loss to Alabama. The Rebels used 21 fourth-quarter points in the game.

Week 6 Action

As we move on to Week 6, some good games are on the slate. The best game on the slate is the Red River Rivalry. This is the game between the Oklahoma Sooners and Texas Longhorns. Both teams are unbeaten, and this is the final time they will play this game as members of the Big 12.

Other great games include the LSU Tigers at the Missouri Tigers. LSU lost for the second time on Saturday but would love to be the first to knock off the Missouri Tigers and do so in Columbia.

The unbeaten Washington State Cougars are on the road at the UCLA Bruins, Notre Dame is at unbeaten Louisville, and Arizona hits the road to take on USC as other notable games in Week 6!
