The Duke Blue Devils are coming off a close loss to Virginia as they head to face Clemson. The Clemson Tigers are a team they’re quite familiar with, having faced a few times already. In their most recent meeting, the Blue Devils secured a 71-69 win.
After getting beat by Virginia, the No.7 Duke will look to get back on the right path. The question is, can they beat Clemson again?
The Clemson Tigers have lost two straight games, one to Georgia Tech, the other to North Carolina. Things aren’t going too well for Clemson basketball this year.
They have a 12-11 record and are dealing with quite a few injuries. They can get another strike in the win column with a win over Duke tonight. Unfortunately for them, that’s much easier said than done.
Duke Blue Devils: Coach K: “We’re not worthy of winning”
As a player, this must’ve been hard to hear from your head coach. After their loss to Virginia, Coach K was very candid about how he thought the team performed. To be fair, he’s not wrong, and Duke has been underperforming all year.
Still, they’re 19-4 and ranked seventh in all of college basketball. A few key wins and the Duke Blue Devils could continue to climb up.
Their offense is in the top-20 of the NCAAM, averaging 80.2 points per game. As they prepare to take on Clemson, the idea should be to overwhelm them with offense. If they can do this, the Blue Devils should be able to cover the 6.5-point spread.
However, the last time these two faced, Duke only won by two. This raises a lot of concerns for bettors considering them.
Clemson Tigers: Inconsistency has ruined Clemson’s season
Obviously, a team can rally back and finish the season strong. However, we don’t see that being the case for the Clemson Tigers. Their offense is lackluster, scoring 72.8 points per game, and they allow nearly the same amount on defense.
Taking on Duke tonight will be yet another challenge for Clemson. In their last ten meetings, the Clemson Tigers are 2-8 against Duke.
The key here is the spread, with Clemson coming in +6.5. That’s quite a lot of points, especially considering that the last time they faced Clemson only lost by two. If you look at the record against the spread in the last ten, you’ll see Clemson is 5-5.
This makes this one an even tougher choice. However, there are some recent games you can look to for your answer.
Duke Blue Devils at Clemson Tigers Betting Pick
The Blue Devils might be ranked higher and score more points than the Tigers. However, Duke is 13-7-3 against the spread this season.
At home, the Clemson Tigers have gone 7-3-1 against the spread, so we’ll take Clemson +6.5. It’s also important to note that Clemson has gone 2-1 against the spread in their last three versus Duke.
With that being said, all signs point to the Clemson Tigers covering the spread. Just to be clear, we don’t think they’ll win the game. We do, however, feel that they’ll be able to keep it within the 6.5-point margin on Thursday night.
