The Dallas Mavericks need a game like this as they will be taking on the San Antonio Spurs. Dallas has struggled a bit since acquiring Kyrie Irving, as the team is 3-7 in their last 10 games and has now lost three straight. San Antonio, on the other hand, has arguably been the worst team in the NBA this season at 18-50.
However, they’ve won four out of their last six games, and that could be a sign of them playing at better basketball. Although the Mavericks are the much better team on paper, we’ve seen this team lose countless times to teams that don’t deserve to be on the same court as them.
The Mavericks will be coming into this one as the favorite at -5.5 on the spread line.
Dallas Needs This One
There are a few different ways to look at this game, but Luka Doncic will be out for Dallas. It’s uncertain if Kyrie Irving is going to play in this game as he’s questionable with a foot injury. Either way, this is a game that Dallas should be able to win given the fact that they’re a much better team top to bottom than San Antonio.
If they come out and they’re able to do what they’ve done in games where they’ve played well, this should be a someone easy win even without their two best players.
The Mavericks also realize at this point in the season that if they don’t start figuring it out, they might have a shot of missing the playoffs. They’re currently tied with the Lakers for the 9/10 spot, and any more losses would put them out of the play-in game. If the Utah Jazz can start winning games, they will find themselves out of the playoff picture.
This could be an indication that Kyrie Irving might suit up in order to get his team to the playoffs, but as we’ve seen with Irving in the past, that always doesn’t mean much to him. He’s going to worry about himself before he worries about the team.
Can San Antonio Continue Playing Well?
The San Antonio Spurs have been playing some decent basketball recently, and that includes wins over the Denver Nuggets and Orlando Magic in two of their last three games. Their win against the Nuggets was impressive, as the Nuggets were fully healthy.
Sandro Mamukelashvili was taking Nikola Jokic to school in the win and showed some promising signs after being waved by the Milwaukee Bucks.
If they can find a way to replicate that same type of offensive pressure on the Dallas Mavericks, this is a game that San Antonio can win. At this point in the season, the wins don’t mean much, given the fact that they will still likely have one of the three best odds to receive the number one pick.
Dallas Mavericks vs San Antonio Spurs Prediction
With this game being played in San Antonio and some of the injuries that the Mavericks have had this season, taking these Spurs +5.5 doesn’t seem like a bad idea. Although the Mavericks are a much better team, they haven’t necessarily played like that throughout the past few weeks.
