A pair of playoff-hopeful teams in the National League wrap up a series on Sunday. The Colorado Rockies are hosting the Cincinnati Reds in a game that will affect the National League Wild Card race. These two teams have split the first two games of this important three-game series.
Colorado fell below the .500 mark with the loss on Saturday night, but they are traditionally a great second half team. The Rockies are just 45-46 on the season but are within striking distance in the Wild Card race. Right-hander Tyler Mahle will be on the mound for the Reds in the series finale, and that might not be a good sign for the fans in Cincy. Mahle is just 2-9 with a 4.47 earned run average this season, and that likely won’t go down with a start at Coors Field looming. The Reds do have one of the best bullpens in the National League and are hard to beat if they have a lead.
Pitching Still an Issue in Colorado
Pitching has been a major issue for the Colorado Rockies since their expansion season, and that remains the case is 2019. Antonio Senzatela will be on the mound for Colorado in this game, and things haven’t gone well for him. Senzatela is 7-6 this season but has a whopping ERA of 5.32. Colorado has a beat-up bullpen after Saturday night and will need a solid start from their righty in this game.
The Rockies have a lineup full of All-Stars, and they have put up some big numbers at Coors Field this season. Third baseman Nolan Arenado is leading the team with 21 home runs and 70 runs batted in, but he has gotten plenty of help. All-Stars Trevor Story and Charlie Blackmon have each hit 20 bombs this season, and the top of the Rockies lineup is one of the best in baseball. Colorado should have a big day on offense against a struggling starting pitcher.
Rockies Win Series Finale
Expect a ton of runs scored in the series finale, and that is the type of game that the Rockies prefer.
