Boston Red Sox at New York Yankees Betting Preview

The browbeaten Boston Red Sox will play the third of a four-game series against the New York Yankees on Sunday. The Red Sox were unable to capture a single win at home in their four-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays, and it seems their struggles have continued on the road against the team that leads the AL East.

The Yankees will attempt to continue their hot streak against the Red Sox, which started in game one of the series when Gerrit Cole recorded his 20th straight regular-season win and continued in game two. It seems as if the Yankees pitching is finally starting to match their strong hitters, which puts them in a great position to capitalize on this home stretch.

The Yankees are -155 in this contest, while the Red Sox are +145. The over/under has been set at 9.5.

Last in the AL East

There isn’t much to be positive about if you find yourself in the Boston Red Sox dugout. Throughout the entire league, the only team with fewer wins than the Red Sox are the Pittsburgh Pirates, who have only four. Pitching is where the trouble for the Red Sox starts. With a team ERA of 5.86, it doesn’t seem to matter who mans the mound for Boston this season.

Chris Mazza will make the first start of his Major League career in this one. The 30-year-old has pitched just once for Boston this season, a 2 2/3-inning relief appearance.

When it comes to betting on the Red Sox, there isn’t much faith in them covering. Boston’s ATS record of 7-14 gives bettors little to no confidence, especially against the strong bats of the Yankees.

There is a glimmer of hope for the Red Sox in this one, though. The Yankees plan to start Pitcher J.A Happ, who has an ERA of 10.29. This gives the Red Sox a chance to grab some runs early in the game.

Juggernauts of the American League

Everything has been falling in favor of the New York Yankees recently. They’ve been incredible at the plate; however, they’ll be without heavy hitter Aaron Judge in this one against the Red Sox.

Being without Judge and potentially DJ LeMahieu isn’t a death sentence for the Yankees’ runs, though. They still have Clint Frazier, who stepped up in Saturday’s game with five RBI.

Where New York could struggle on Sunday is on the mound. Happ is one of the weakest pitchers in the Yankees rotation, and the batters will have to compensate for the runs Happ could possibly give up.

Red Sox vs. Yankees Free Pick

This game is all but guaranteed to go over, with both squads starting not so stellar pitchers and the fact that the Yankees can run the score up at will. The key here is can Happ prevent the Red Sox from getting out ahead early and forcing the Yankees to play catch-up.

Look for the boys at home to grab another win here with the total going over the 9.5. Take the Yankees -155.
