The Golden State Warriors will play the Boston Celtics in Game 3 on Friday night at 9 p.m. EDT at the Garden. Golden State (1-2) is coming off a Game 2 loss by 16 points. Meanwhile, Boston (2-1) aims to grab a commanding series lead and really put the pressure on the Warriors.
The Celtics dominated the smaller Warriors on the boards and reclaimed control of the series. But the Warriors can never be counted out, and Golden State will look to bounce back and even up the series.
Warriors Fall in Game 3 on the Road
Golden State struggled to get out of the gate in Game 3 and were outscored 33-22, but they had a huge third quarter to keep the game interesting before stumbling again in the fourth.
Steph Curry led the Warriors with 31 points, while Klay Thompson added 25, and Andrew Wiggins chipped in with 18. In the loss, Draymond Green fouled out and only scored two points.
However, the Warriors are being thrashed on the boards. They’re not only getting pounded, but they’re also committing poor fouls and turning the ball over carelessly. In the third quarter, they had an opportunity to take control of Game 3, but they were careless, and the Celtics took advantage.
The Warriors’ entire defensive effort needs to improve. The Celtics deserve praise for their excellent ball movement and ability to locate open shooters, but the Warriors don’t stand a chance against a team that allows 48.3 percent shooting from the field. Boston’s defense is far too outstanding to be handing them so many easy baskets.
Celtics Look to Take Commanding Lead
Boston performed exactly how they wanted to in their first game at home. They shot an outstanding 48.3 percent from the field and 37.1 percent from three-point range in the contest, outrebounding Golden State 47-31.
Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum, and Marcus Smart led the team with 27, 26, and 24 points, respectively, in the game. Al Horford had 11 points, and Grant Williams got ten points off the bench.
The Celtics will look to keep their foot on the accelerator, and it starts with their defense. Boston must also improve their defense against Curry, particularly while coming off switches where they like to get open.
Boston will have a huge advantage moving forward if they can grab a victory at home. If they drop this game, it would put them in a position where they would have to win at the Chase Center once more, and that is a tall task.
