WPT Rolling Thunder Series Set to Begin

The World Poker Tour is going to be launching another massive series this weekend, and it’s one that will come with a huge main event as well. The WPT Rolling Thunder Series will begin on March 7th, and will last for much of the month.

All of the action is going to be taking place at the Thunder Valley Casino Resort in Lincoln, California, and it will be an attractive destination for live poker players. Buy-ins for this event are going to be as low as $200, with the biggest buy-ins checking in at $3,500.

While much of the focus is going to be main event, other smaller events are going to be a bigger hit with players that don’t like to get involved with the best of the best. The Thunder Valley Casino Resort in Lincoln has already hosted this event in the past, and it was an event that went off without a hitch.

Last year the main event paid out $361,600 to the winner, and an even bigger first prize will likely be handed out this time around. Here is a look at the results from a year ago, and what to expect for the series this year.

Eskenazi is Defending Champion

When the 2024 WPT Rolling Thunder Championship begins on March 23rd, Scott Eskenazi will be coming to the event as the defending champion. Eskenazi took home a grand prize of $361,600 with that win, and that was a huge payout over the next few finishers.

Jeremy Joseph was the runner up at that event as he was able to bring home $234,000 by finishing in second place. In third place was Alejando Jauregui, and that position earned him $172,000 for the event.

The main event brought in 590 players a season ago, and more is expected this season as this event has become more and more popular. Some of the top poker players might until the final event in order to get involved, while others will be looking to enter one of the 21 prior events.

Some Great Action Coming

The WPT Rolling Thunder Championship will be played out over four days, and there are going to be some long days coming. There is just one flight that will be played on March 23rd, and over eight hours of action is expected to take place.

From there, all of the players that have bagged chips will move on to Day 2, and more eliminations will then take place. Every player is going to start out with 50,000 chips when the action begins, and it will last until there is a winner.

There is no reason to wait around for March 23rd to get into the action though as there will be events taking place on March 7th. The first week is mostly reserved for some players that enjoy low stakes as all of those buy-ins are going to be $500 or less.
