The official World Series of Poker isn’t going to take place until later this year, but the WSOPCircuit has been going on throughout the year. The most recent stop on the WSOPC took place in Pompano Beach, and there was a returning winner that won the biggest event.
Hamid Izadi is starting to become a huge name to watch on the WSOPC as he was able to pick up win number seven at the $1,700 buy-in, no-limit hold’em event. With a field of over 900 entries in this tournament, getting the win was no small feat for Izadi.
This win netted the poker pro $245,225, but this event also paid out some serious money to other top finishers as well. The total prize pool was up to more than $1.3 million, which shattered the previous guarantee of just $1 million.
2024 has proven to be a huge year so far for Izadi as he was also able to win a WSOPC event in Tunica in January. He now sits in 22nd place in the Card Player of the Year standings, and his 912 points in this event was a massive boost.
There were some rough moments at times in this event for Izadi, but his steady play just continued to create some issues for other contenders.
A Long Battle
Because there were so many entries into this event, there were three different flights held before the action really started to heat up. Izadi was not only able to get through that stage, but he was also able to get through the action on the next day.
Getting to the final table is the ultimate goal for all poker players in each event, and Izadi was ultimately joined by six other players. Michael Lydon came to the final table with the chip lead, but Izadi was right behind him in second place.
Eliminations started to happen pretty quickly as Taylor Hart lost a tight battle to bow out in seventh place. Shortly after that, Jake Schwartz was beaten on the flop as he took home sixth place in this event.
It was then Izadi that took things into his own hands as he was able to eliminate the next three players on his own. That gave him a massive chip lead heading into heads up play, and it wasn’t long before he won the title over Boris Kasabov.
A Nice Career
Izadi is now going to have the attention of all of the players with his two wins this year, but he’s been racking up wins throughout his career. He entered 2024 with over $800,000 in career earnings, but he has already been able to double that number.
With the WSOP set to take place later this year, Izadi is going to put himself in a position to be featured at some of the top events. There were several WSOP pros that joined him in this tournament, and that win should give him some confidence moving forward.
