Winning Poker Network Drops Bad Beat Jackpot

wpn logoThe Winning Poker Network, which includes skins Americas Cardroom, Black Chip Poker, and True Poker, has announced that it will end its Bad Beat Jackpot promotion on September 1st.  The remaining prize pool will continue after September 1st until the jackpot money has been distributed.  No additional rake will be taken for the Bad Beat Jackpot starting September 1st so its size will not grow after that date.  A player unlocks the Bad Beat Jackpot when losing four of a kind 8’s or better and both players use both hole cards.

The Winning Poker Network will still offer jackpot tables that will offer TheBeast promotion.  A maximum rake of $.25 will be taken from these tables.  Of this amount, the cash game race associated with TheBeast will receive $.18, while the tournament pool will add $.07.  The fee will be dropped altogether at $.05/$.10 tables.

The first place prize for TheBeast’s monthly points race will cap at $15,000.  The Winning Poker Network will cap the top prize in an attempt to include more winners each month, according to a Winning Poker Network representative.

The announcement has received mixed reactions from players.  One view is that all jackpot tables be removed.  Others are happy that at least the high variance Bad Beat Jackpot will be going away.

The Winning Poker Network was the last U.S. facing online poker network to offer a Bad Beat Jackpot.  Merge Gaming ended theirs in August 2012.  Bad Beat Jackpots have also fallen out of favor at rooms that service the rest of the world.  International players can still find them at Boss Media.  Microgaming allows players to opt into the Bad Beat Jackpot at any table by paying a $.02 contribution to the pool.
