Will New York Consider Online Gambling in 2015?

In the United States, there are only three states that currently offer online gambling options, be it poker or casino games. Delaware, Nevada and New Jersey offer i-Gaming and have been an example to many other individual states in the US as to if they want to become involved in the industry or not. Several states have seen the creation of online poker or gambling bills only to not see any movement of legalization take place. The state of New York recently finished up a long process of choosing operators for new brick-and-mortar casinos and now online poker could be in the works.

According to CardPlayer, Gambling Compliance is reporting that next year the state will be holding hearings that will discuss online poker and whether the state will legalize the option. Of course, nearby New Jersey offers such gaming so if New York wants to be a stiff competitor, they will need to get in on the online action. New York has basically double the population as New Jersey so they could essentially take the lead as the top operator in the United States if online poker gaming is approved.

During the first portion of 2014, the state saw an online poker bill introduced but the measure saw little movement. Since this time, the state has been more focused on the brick-and-mortar options with an arduous process to choose the right operators and location for the new facilities.

It will be interesting to see if New York does become involved in online poker gaming in 2015. With California considering legislation as well, the two highly populated states could be a game changer for the online gaming industry of the United States. 2014 only has a few more days remaining and then 2015 will begin, hopefully offering additional states in the US with online gaming options.
