The 2023 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown (SHRPS) features 60 tournaments that will run between April 13 and May 2. Their buy-ins range from $200 to $50,000. Besides, the showdown has five high-stakes tournaments with five-figure buy-ins.
The first SHRPS high roller was Event No.37: $10,000 buy-in no-limit hold’em. It attracted 89 players who formed an $845,500 prize pool and lasted for two days. Shannon Shorr won the tournament, bagging a trophy, title, and $260,600.
This was the poker pro’s 10th biggest payout in his professional career, and it increased his lifetime poker earnings to over $11.4 million. Yet, it was Shorr’s first live poker event title since the one he won in the 2022 U.S. Poker Open.
Reports state that he has 19 recorded poker titles now. Shorr informed Seminole Hard Rock reporters after his victory that he felt great since he hasn’t performed well in the past year.
The player and his spouse are expecting another child during Halloween. His latest victory reduced his anxiety.
Besides winning the cash and title, Shorr amassed 480 Card Player Player of the Year (POY) points. It was his second POY final table to qualify and his first title this year.

Day 2 Highlights
Shorr was in the middle position in the chip standings when he advanced to Day 2. But, he dropped to the last position when Eli Berg and Nadya Magnus got busted in the ninth and eighth positions, respectively.
The pro didn’t give up and gradually increased his stack. Filipp Khavin’s 9-8 held Bryn Kenney’s pocket jacks hence helping Shorr to extend his run. Khavin got a ten-high straight from the flop after chips got in.
Kenney made a full hose after a turn paired the board. Unfortunately, a black on the river ended his run in seventh position with $33,800.
Thomas Boivin left the table in sixth place after Dylan Smith’s K-6 suited outrun his A-2. Khavin’s A-Q lost to Adam Hendrix’s pocket aces. Shorr’s A-J defeated his K-5 and busted him in fifth place.
Dan Colpoys followed Khavin in fourth place after Smith’s pocket tens beat his A-8. Hendrix used KDiamond SuitQDiamond Suit to make a big blind all-in call, and Shorr used ADiamond Suit9Heart Suit to make a small-blind shove.
Hendrix finished third with $101,500 setting up a heads-up match between Shorr and Smith. Smith used 7Heart Suit7Club Suit to make a button limp-shove, and Shorr used ADiamond SuitJDiamond Suit to make a big blind raise. The former called while the 6Diamond Suit6Club Suit4Heart Suit8Diamond Suit2Diamond Suit earned the latter the title and pot.
