Players of PokerStars have been taking part in the 2017 World Championship of Online Poker over the past few days with tons of cash and gaming opportunities up for grabs. WCOOP Event #79 just recently finished up with Steven van Zadelhoff earning the first-place win after dominating final table play.
The event had a guaranteed prize pool of $10 million with a buy-in of $5,200. With 2,183 total entries, the event paid out to 278 players and the guaranteed prize pool was increased by $915,000. 1,804 of these entries were unique with 379 re-entries. When the final table began, nine players would fight to be the last player standing. Zadelhoff entered final table play with a nice chip lead and would take out four players at the final table to eventually earn the win.
After the final table was whittled down to the final two, Zadelhoff would face off against Joshua Herman in heads-up play. Zadelhoff held a huge chip lead with 75,936,059 to Herman’s 33,213,941 stack. It would only be a few minutes before Zadelhoff would be named the winner.
On the final hand, Herman would go all-in with A-2 of clubs with Zadelhoff instantly calling with A-J off-suit. The board fell J-5-7 giving Zadelhoff the lead, the K on the turn and 8 on the river sealed the win for the pro. The main event marked the end of the 2017 WCOOP, which PokerStars has deemed a big success!
