PokerStars Pro Decides to Move Away from Online Poker Brand

PokerStars LogoIt has been a few weeks since the boycott against PokerStars for changes to the VIP program to be implemented this year, and the site continues to see disdain from players. Isaac Haxton, a professional poker player, who was sponsored by PokerStars, has decided to turn down a renewal of his sponsorship. Haxton stated that he would not be working with PokerStars due to the treatment of players by the company.

A member of Team PokerStars Online, Haxton was offered the very same deal for 2016 as he enjoyed in 2015 but decided he would not take the deal. The 2015 sponsorship ended on New Year’s Eve and Haxton decided to not work with PokerStars, costing him quite a bit of money with the decision.

The changes being referred to at PokerStars cover the incentive programs available at the online poker room. The change would eliminate the Supernova and Supernova Elite benefits for players beginning in 2016. Several players had worked in 2015, all year long, investing time and money, to lose the incentives they had worked hard for, which is why so many were upset with the changes made by Amaya Gaming.

Haxton actually took to TwoPlusTwo, a popular online poker forum, to discuss why he was leaving PokerStars. The pro explained the decision was due to the changes and he felt that PokerStars had been unethically in their decision. Haxton explained that with the announcement in November that Supernova and Supernova Elite status earned in 2015 would not be beneficial in 2016 is both dishonest and unfair.

Haxton stated that he knows what it takes to rake in 1M VPP in one year, which is what is needed for SNE status, which he has reached 4 times. The grind is tough and for most players who attempt it, the process is a commitment that can be more intense than a full time job. Some players even relocate from home and family to be able to pursue the activity. It is due to these changes that Haxton stated he could not in good conscience continue to endorse the poker site that treats their players in this manner.
