The Party Poker Premier League IV is set to begin in just a few days and news has been released that poker pro Phil Laak will be replacing Doyle Brunson in the star studded event. Laak will join Roland de Wolfe, Luke Schwartz, Daniel Negreanu, Vanessa Rousso, David Benyamine, Tony G, Phil Hellmuth, JC Tran and Yevgeniy Timoshenko at the event.
As we reported yesterday, Doyle Brunson had to pull out of the event since he had to undergo dental surgery on Monday. Brunson has decided to take a break from poker to recover from surgery as well as rest up and be ready for the WSOP. Brunson will be missing several events including the Party Poker Premier League IV.
But now Party Poker has found a replacement in Phil Laak. The poker pro commented on joining the event by stating: “This is the most money I have ever wagered against the toughest field I have ever faced. Collectively my opponents have over $45 million in tournament winnings. This will be the best ride ever. Full stop.†When asked about his rivals he said: “I hear Tony G has a bike now. I hope he doesn’t send me off on it! As for Full Flush there will be free sandwiches. Negreanu and Hellmuth…ranked two and four on the all time money list. Truly amazing. Vanessa Rousso is always thinking while Roland de Wolfe is full of sharp wit and is amazingly entertaining, always.”
Now that the field of competitors has almost been completed for the event, the prize pool for the event will be at $1.5 million. Party Poker will be adding an additional $300,000 as two of the seats of the event will go to players from Party Poker. One seat will be given to one of sixteen qualifiers who will be named prior to the Premier League IV and one seat will go to the winner of a special tournament that will take place between Team PartyPoker members.
The event is definitely going to be an exciting one as the twelve players compete in two six handed semi-final matches and the Championship Event, which will be filmed for television, so fans can view the action as it happened.
