Phil Hellmuth and National Basketball Association (NBA) star Steph Curry are scheduled to play poker to raise charity money. The Golden State Warriors will also join the two to play the $10,000 buy-in charity poker matches in San Francisco on February 5. This poker tournament is designed to help raise the Warriors Community Foundation money.
While the buy-ins and rebuys are going for $10,000, an Amateur tourney is going for $5,000. At the moment, all seats have been bought. But, some people are still hopeful that things might change, adding more space for interested players.
The upcoming event is the eighth yearly charity poker tourney. It is scheduled to happen a short walk from the Chase Center, at the St. Regis hotel in the home of the NBA team. The games will begin at 6 p.m. on the scheduled date as it is an off-day for the Golden State Warriors team.
Basketball Players That Love Poker
While they are popular for their basketball skills, some players play poker as a hobby. For example, Curry, one of the best shooters in NBA history, and Draymond Green, a forward, love playing poker.
On the other hand, Hellmuth is a fan of basketball games. Living in the Bay Area, Hellmuth ensures attending most games and sitting at courtside seats for Warrior games. Hellmuth has even become friends with some of these players and co-owners, such as Chamath Palihapitiya, who also appeared on Poker After Dark.

Green is a defensive specialist who has also adopted the offensive role whenever needed. As a talented poker and basketball player, Green is expected to appear in the upcoming event. But, he is not the only skilled poker player on the schedule.
According to the 16-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner, Steph Curry will also come through. Hellmuth guessed that Steph was probably the second-best poker player in the NBA.
More About the February 5 Event
Considering the planned event is meant to raise charity money, involved participants will buy into the event with their own money. The Warriors Community Foundation is a non-profit organization designed to help thriving students, schools, education, and communities.
This is not the first event Hellmuth is using to raise money for charity. He has a goal of raising over $100 million in his lifetime to various charities, which he is not far from reaching.
On January 28, 2022, Phil shared the statistics about his goal on his Twitter account. He wrote that he had helped raise $60 million without calculating the figures for 2017-2021.
Hellmuth has hosted several poker events, such as TigerJam for the Tiger Woods Foundation Full House Charity Program, among others, to raise charity money. Considering legacy is a big deal for Phil, we wish him all the best in his future endeavors.
