As the United States moves closer to legalizing online poker, top online poker providers are making moves to be ready when the time comes. Many companies are partnering with big brand casinos in the United States, particularly in the state of Nevada. Not to be left behind, Patrick Kennedy the Chief Executive of Paddy Power, has now come forward stating that they intend to enter the market as well.
Patrick Kennedy released statements last week during the Paddy Power annual general meeting that the Paddy Power brand is in talks with several potential partners in the US to offer their online poker services. The brand is waiting to gain approval from the Nevada Gaming Commission for a license which will allow the company to provide mobile betting equipment as well as operate that equipment. The license may be acquired very soon as the state is planning on issuing licensing beginning in June.
Kennedy went on to state the Paddy Power does not have the technology to provide platforms for online poker operations like gambling companies such as Bwin. Kennedy stated: “What we’re showing potential partners is deep e-commerce expertise that other global companies don’t have. We know how to run, better than anyone, I would argue, an e-commerce business. So there are different parts to the value chain.”
An important factor to consider with Paddy Power is that have a good legal reputation when it comes to the United States. Unlike other companies, Paddy Power has not been offering their services in the US so they could not be charged with illegally offering this type of service to US residents in the past. Kennedy has yet to name which companies they are considering for potential partners.
More information should surface as early as June with the company, if they are granted a license in the state of Nevada. We may find out then who the company plans to partner with and what exactly they will be offering in the US when the market opens up to online poker.
