It’s been a busy few months for the state of New Jersey. Online gaming revenues hit the $20 million mark once again, and Governor Chris Christie has announced a compact agreement has been signed with Nevada and Delaware to pool online players between the state.
Let’s start with online gaming revenues. For the month of September, the Division of Gaming Enforcement has reported that the overall total of revenues earned by sites operating in the state came to $20.4 million. This is an increase of just over 26% when comparing the totals from September 2016. This is the seventh month in a row that the state has seen online gaming revenues surpass the $20m mark. For online poker play, $1.9 million was earned which is a decrease of 12.5%. With online casino gaming, the state was able to see an increase of 33% year-over-year with $18.5 million earned for the month.
Poker has continued to see less than stellar numbers so the news of player pooling can certainly help online poker sites in the state to see an increase in traffic. It was in a recent press release that Governor Chris Christie announced that New Jersey was now going to pool players with Nevada and Delaware. New Jersey had declined to sign an agreement with Nevada and Delaware in the past when the decided to pool their players but now it seems the state wants to continue to expand their online gaming offerings.
According to Christie, the agreement ‘marks the beginning of a new and exciting chapter for online gaming’. A date has yet to be announced for the deal to begin but we do know that citizens of Nevada and Delaware will be able to compete against each other during cash game or tournament poker. A provision in the agreement will also allow for progressive slot games to share player pools, but this would only be available in Delaware and New Jersey as Nevada does not offer casino gaming.
