There was a time, long before online poker and the interwebs when women weren’t considered mens equals, in fact, during these times women just like you were not welcome at the poker table. Slot machines were first introduced to entertain the wives of poker players that were not allowed a seat at the poker table with the men. In fact, these ladies wouldn’t be caught dead at the poker table! It just wasn’t decent!
Women didn’t play poker, or shoot dice for that matter, so the casino’s installed the slot machines, both as a way to keep the ladies entertained, and to extract further profits from them.
The woman’s movement has come and gone however, and in many live games today, you’ll find as many women playing poker as you will gentlemen.
Actually, the woman’s movement was quite a success, and in many cases, the ladies did not stop at obtaining seats for themselves amongst the men in poker rooms. You’ll find these ladies rubbing elbow’s with male poker players, as they batt their eyelashes, and collect poker chips.
As the woman’s movement progressed in the poker world, the women pushed further knocking the men right off of their chairs, and right out of the games, creating special ladies only poker events,  IN ADDITION TO (not in lieu of) the now coed poker games.
Well, the fairer sex has always been the more generous of the two genders, and therefore it’s been decided by the wives’ and girlfriends of so many poker players to give poker night back to the men during a men’s only poker event brought to the poker world by the Lips Poker Tour, normally an all ladies poker league.
The Ladies International Poker Series (LIPS) is set to host their first ever Men’s Only Poker Tournament, which will be held during the Ladies International Poker Series Championship Weekend at the Golden Nugget Casino, located in Las Vegas Nevada.
Maybe the wives and girlfriends just wanted the men to have something to do? Sort of like the old time slot machines.
“Men often ask me why there are no “men only” poker tournaments and my answer to that is – if you want one, make one!” said Lupe Soto, LIPS Founder. ‘We’re happy to officially host the first one!” she added.
This is the 5th annual LIPS Championship; however it’s the first to feature events for both men and women. This year’s big winner will win a seat into the exclusive Sports Legends Challenge in the Bahamas!
The men’s only even kicks off on August 8th, at 12pm at the Golden Nugget Casino.  Men are invited to play for $300 plus the $30 house fee.
