Several days ago, the WSOP announced that the most popular poker tournament in the world will be back at the good old place — Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. The problem is that the piece of news was published on April 1, so many poker enthusiasts didn’t want to celebrate right away, as that could have been an April Fool’s joke. However, the news is still active, and it’s officially confirmed — we well have an opportunity to watch the World Series of Poker live once again.
The date is set to be September 30 — November 23. In other words, the organizers didn’t want to take any risks by scheduling the festival in July, as there still might be some Covid-19 threat then. The festival is still pending approval from the regulatory bodies and the state. However, if all goes well, there’s no reason not to approve another WSOP in the Entertainment Capital of the World.
Event Overview
The schedule has not been released yet, but the WSOP officials did throw a couple of hints at the public. For example, they stated that one of the opening events will be a $25,000 H.O.R.S.E which will actually be a charity event for health workers who have been fighting Covid for more than a year now. There will also be an event that will offer $5 million in guaranteed prized, which will celebrate the return of the World Series of Poker to the live felt. The event is named The Reunion.
The most important competition of every WSOP is the Main Event, and this year will be no different. It will require a $10,000 buy-in and will run from November 4 through November 17. There will be a total of four starting flights, and each flight will last one day from November 4 – 7.
Survivors of Day 1 & 2 will have Day 2 on November 8, whereas Day 3 & 4 survivors will meet on November 9. The field will finally be combined on November 10, when the remaining players will have an opportunity to fight for the main prize and have their names written down in the poker history books.
There will be some very specific Covid-19 protocols in place, but they are yet to be determined. The officials of WSOP will work closely with the regulators in the state in order to determine the best possible way to keep players and staff safe.
Ty Stewart, WSOP Executive Director, stated that they would embrace their role to “deliver a memorable experience” more than ever and that they would bring the community of poker players back together.
