Joe Rice Wins $238,870 in Inaugural World Series of Poker Circuit at Turning Stone Resort Casino

Joe Rice, a New York resident, defeated 890 entrants to win the second ring of the series and $238,870. The Turning Stone Resort Casino hosted the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Circuit this month. It was the state’s first time hosting the circuit.

Rice won the main event, the $400 buy-in kickoff event, and reached two other final tables. He amazed many people when he beat all his opponents in the WSOPC Turning Stone $1,700 no-limit hold ’em main event.

The event’s winner informed WSOP reporters that his wife, Jessica, asked him what he wished for Christmas, and he replied that he wanted to take part in the Turning Stone Circuit. He guaranteed his wife at least one win or two and was certain he would win at least $100,000.

Rice and Jessica are hopeful that she will give birth to their first daughter in the summer. They have two sons, Jayson and Joseph Jr.

The poker pro told his family that he would compete in the Turning Stone event because of them. He admitted that it was difficult being away from them for a week, and they cried a lot since they missed him.

He treasures his family a lot and is glad that he didn’t let them down. Rice assured that the world would know his name and that of his family by the end of the poker series.

He cashed $274,441 in the series and amassed 912 Card Player Player of the Year (POY) in the main event. The player advanced to four final tables in the series, and he holds the 39th position in the 2022 POY race, which Global Poker sponsors.

Other Players Who Participated in the Event

Several top players made deep runs in the tournament. They included Aditya Prasetyo, Victor Adams, and Scott Blumstein. Prasetyo s a three-time ring winner who won $6,319 after finishing 28th in the event; Adams is a 2018 Card Player Poker Tour Seneca Niagara main event winner who won $12,570 after finishing 18th and Blumstein is a 2017 main event winner who won $4,793 after finishing 35th.

The Final Day

The event’s final day started with 13 players left, and Tim O’Donoghue led them. Rice held the fifth chip position when action resumed, and he rose on the leaderboard when the event organizers set the nine-handed final table.

O’Donoghue won $23,605 after finishing ninth when his top pair of aces ran into Giuseppe Galluzzo’s nut flush. James Namiot won $29,747 after finishing eight when his pocket nines lost to Galluzzo’s A-K suited.

Rice scored the final table’s first knockout after his pocket fives beat a coin flip against Matthew Eng’s A-10 suited. The latter finished seventh and won $37,877. Rice then picked pocket aces that he held against Jared Woodell’s pocket sixes.

He eliminated him and reduced the field to five players. Woodell won $48,729 after finishing sixth. Patrick Bowe went all-in with his J-10, facing John Amoia’s A-5 suited.

Amoia made aces up flop and did a club draw for Bowe to take down the pot. He eliminated Bowe, who went home with $63,332. Amoia took another risk and held A-5 suited while facing Rice’s A-K.

By then, Rice had made kings and aces by the river that eliminated Amoia with $83,144. Bob Hover went all-in as his K-Q lead Rice’s K-J suited. But, a jack-high flop changed things.

The river or turn didn’t help Hover and exited the event in third place with $110,250. A heads-up battle started as Galluzo held a chip lead of over 3.5:1 on Rice.

The gap reduced slightly as Rice doubled into a chip lead after a pre-flop race. His pocket fives defeated Galluzzo’s A-K and offered him a chip advantage; he used a bottom two pair to win a big pot that extended his lead.

Rice used AHeart SuitQSpade Suit to limp from the button, while Galluzzo used JClub Suit7Heart Suit to move all in. The board ran out 5Heart Suit4Diamond Suit2Heart Suit8Diamond SuitKDiamond Suit after Rice made a quick call, and it locked up the title and pot for him. Galluzzo won $147,644 after being the runners-up.
