Federal Government Considering Study of iGaming; Could Halt States from passing Legislation

DE gamblingRecent news has come to light that may not bode well for the online gambling industry of the United States. For some time now, opponents of online gambling have been fighting to see a ban on a federal level be enforced across the US. Leading the efforts is Sheldon Adelson of the Las Vegas Sands. With the Restoration of America’s Wire Act, Adelson and his followers hope to see poker sites in the US shut down and additional states kept from passing legislation to legalize and regulate online gaming sites.

However, it seems as though now, opponents of the industry may have to settle for blocking new states from licensing gaming. It is rumored that a federal study of online poker and casino gaming could be in the works, with legislators placing a halt to new states entering in the industry until the study is completed.

According to Rich Muny, the VP of Player Relations at Poker Players Alliance, Gambling Compliance has reported on the rumors of a study on a federal level. According to a report by Gambling Compliance, the House Republican leaders are considering a federal study of online gambling to delay any voting on the issue until the presidential election of 2016 is completed.

The study proposal would stop the two bills that are currently pending in legislation that seek to ban online gambling, which is a good thing. But any expansion of online poker or casino gaming would also be halted in states that do not already have legislation in place.

According to the report, it is unclear as to how seriously legislators are taking the proposal for a study of iGaming on a federal level. The idea, however, is being pitched to be an alternative method due to the non-consensus within the Republican Party after bills were introduced by Jason Chaffetz and Lindsey Graham.
