The 2019 PokerStars European Poker Tour in Prague has already started, and the first event recently wrapped up, with the Spanish poker superstar Adrian Mateos taking the first prize, as well as the PokerStars Spade trophy. The event attracted a total of 61 entries, and Mateos managed to win the lion’s share of the prize pool after defeating Anton Yakuba in heads-up play.
With another €177,500 in his pocket, Mateos continues to prove how great a poker player he is and why he is considered one of the best players on the Old Continent.
Although Yakuba had been the most dominant player throughout the last day, Mateos managed to play a few important hands at key times to amass chips and enter the heads-up part of the event with a 2:1 chip lead, thus creating a huge advantage over his opponent who obviously had a great day.
This was Mateos’ sixth time to win a PokerStars EPT event. His resume of wins and cashes is already great, and this one will only make it shine brighter, as his name would go down in history for being one of the best poker players to have come out of the Iberian peninsula.
Some of his other impressive titles include winning the EPT Monte Carlo Main Event in 2015, when he managed to earn a seven-figure cash prize, a €50,000 8-Max in Monte Carlo in 2017 where he won more than €900,000, and more. In fact, this cash brought him one step closer to reaching the $20 million mark in career earnings.
On the other hand, Yakuba played the tournament of his life and managed to earn the biggest live cash of his career, winning a total of €128,400. Yakuba plans to stay at the EPT Prague for a while and take part in some other upcoming events of this exciting European tournament that takes place in one of the most beautiful cities of Europe.
The Final Table Results
A total of eight players made it to the final table, and the first one to hit the rail was a Russian named Arsenii Karmatckii, who managed to earn €23,670. The next one in line was the popular Turkish poker player, Orpen Kisacikoglu, who ended up winning €30,180.
Sixth place was reserved for a Japanese player named Tsugunari Toma, who won €37,870. A Frenchman named Bertrand Grospellier ended up fifth for €48,520.
Another Russian player, Vladimir Troyanovskiy, ended up fourth and won €62,720, and he was followed by a Hong Kong player, Derek Ip, who snatched a total of €82,840. Ip was the last player to leave the game before Yakuba and Mateos were able to start heads-up play and bring the event to a conclusion.
This was definitely an exciting event with lots of great poker action, and more of that is yet to come in the upcoming PokerStars EPT Prague events.
