The winner of the first final table that’s part of the 2020 WSOP $10,000 Championship Main Event has been decided in the poker room of a popular casino in Rozvadov, Czech Republic — King’s Resort.
The original field of the international Main Event consisted of 674 entries who first played on the web before the final table was created. The entries created the prize pool of $6,470,400. Out of them all, the field narrowed down to the two heads-up opponents: Damian Salas from Argentina and Brunno Botteon from Brazil. In the end, Salas was the one to celebrate the victory, winning a total of $1,550,969 as his prize.
Salas was proud to flash his country’s flag all the time during the final table, where he ultimately became the winner after sending Botteon to the rail. The player from Brazil is popular in the online poker sphere, and he managed to reach three final tables and two runner-ups when he took part in the 2020 GGPoker WSOP Online.
Therefore, Botteon hoped that the “third time’s a charm” saying will work, but it didn’t. He ended up a runner-up once again and had to settle for the consolation prize. Still, the prize itself was actually pretty consolidating, as Botteon won a total of $1,062,723.
Still, it was Salas who gained an opportunity to become the ultimate WSOP winner in 2020. He will have to travel to the US, to the good old place known as Las Vegas, where he’ll face the winner of the American leg of the WSOP. After that, the two players will engage in a heads-up duel that’s scheduled for December 30.
Salas Shared His Thoughts on the Victory
Salas wasn’t hiding his happiness about the performance, stating that even though he wasn’t the best player in the world, he had an opportunity to improve his game by playing against the best.
The player from Argentina has been playing against Botteon several times so far, but it was mostly in online poker. He described the player from Brazil as a “tough opponent with a winning mentality,” implicating that winning against him was definitely not an easy task.
Even though Salas achieved great success in the world of poker, his long-term plans include him continuing his work as a lawyer in Argentina. He argued that he wanted to spend his energy on other things apart from poker.
The Final Table Overview
Hannes Speiser from Austria was the first player to hit the rail as eight-placed, winning a total of $109,982.
After that, it was time for Stoyan Obreshkov from Bulgaria to leave the game with $160,512 in his pocket.
The sixth place was reserved for Lithuania’s Dominykas Mikolaitis, who won $234,255. After him, Marco Streda from Switzerland hit the rail and won $341,879.
The fourth-place belonged to Spain’s Ramon Miquel Munoz for $498,947, and Manuel Ruivo from Portugal was the last player to hit the rail before the heads-up. Ruivo won $728,177.
