Bodog Brands Remove Skrill as Payment Option

Bodog has quietly removed Skrill, formerly known as Moneybookers, as a payment option from their player’s cashier.  The move affects the Bodog.eu and Bodog88 brands.  The move is unusual because many of the players on Bodog.eu are from Canada where Neteller is not available.  This removes the only ewallet option for Canadian players from the cashier.  Players in Canada may still deposit using credit cards, debit cards and electronic checks to Canadian banks.  Electronic transfers are also available as a withdrawal option for Canadians.

The move is interesting because it may not have come from Skrill, but instead from the brand’s management.  That is because Bodog.eu and Bodog88 have different owners but the policy was rolled out on both brands.  The fees from Skrill have been known to be higher than competing services for both players and merchants.  Since Bodog’s online poker room and some other offerings operate in USD this may be an even bigger issue.

Moneybookers charges merchants a 2.9% fee plus a small service charge.  This rate is doubled if there is a currency exchange required during the transaction.  Many of the players on Bodog.eu and Bodog88 will need to convert their deposits into USD and this causes a burden on Bodog’s processing fees.

Bodog was reached for comment over 24 hours ago.  Bodog has not replied at the time of this post.

The lack of official announcement, the lack of notice and the delays in Skrill cashouts in the previous days are giving Bodog players some concerns about the Bodog banking system.  It appears that no other cashout options are affected, but dropping one of the largest ewallet plans without notice has caused some players to wonder about the real reasons behind the move.  Some former Bodog Skrill players are left with only a check option for withdrawals.

Bovada is not affected by this move as the brand does not accept players outside of the US.  Skrill processes some non-gaming US payments but strictly forbids US online gambling operators from using their services.
