The race for the Card Player Online Poker Player of the Year (OPOY) award was tight from the very beginning of the year with the top two contending poker players both winning the PokerStars Sunday Million event in January. It literally came down to the final days of 2007 to determine who the winner would be. Isaac Baron, westmenloAA to the online poker playing community took down the title by a mere 26 points.
With just 8 days to go Isaac took the lead over Matt “ch0ppy†Kay with a win at the $200 re-buy poker tournament at PokerStars. Almost any OPOY qualified finish would have taken Matt Kay back to the top and with Sorel “Imper1um” Mizzi a distant third, it was just going to be these two to the finish. Eventually the lead stood and Isaac “westmenloAA†Baron is this years Card Player Online Poker Player of the Year.
This year was a battle from the first days to the final days. Kay, Baron, Mizzi and a few other well known poker pros spent time at the top of the leader board and stayed there all year, keeping the pressure on every one to perform and for Isaac Baron, perform he did.
He won the $500 buy-in PokerStars Sunday Million in late January to get on the OPOY Leader Board and cemented his stay at the top with 37 top 20 finishes, 20 final tables and 7 wins. 18 cashed were for at least 5 figures for a total of $1,036,452 in earnings and this was just for OPOY qualified events.
