Online social networking site Facebook is now offering their UK members the opportunity to participate in real money gambling games. A new app has launched at Facebook titled Bingo Friendzy and this new application is the first available at Facebook where players can gamble with real money.
The new application was created by Gamesys and gives players the opportunity to forgo the Facebook Credits and use their own cash. Players must live in the UK and be over the age of eighteen to be able to participate. Filters have also been placed on the game to protect those who have gambling problems or those who are underage.
This is just the beginning for real money gambling games at Facebook. The social gaming giant announced that they will be launching real money slot games in the next few weeks. The site has yet to announce any other forms of gambling options but it would not be surprising if they decide to launch online poker as well.
Julien Codorniou, the Head of EMEA Gaming Partnerships at Facebook Europe, commented on the new option by stating: “People love playing new types of games with their friends on Facebook and real money gaming is a popular leisure activity in the UK. We’re delighted to be working with Gamesys to enable them to offer their games on Facebook so that people can enjoy playing more games with their friends.”
Online poker news source, PokerNews, spoke with a Facebook spokesperson on the new application and the spokesperson stated: “We have launched this in the UK as it has a mature and very well-regulated gambling market, with a respected operator which provides its existing customers with great products and experiences.”
Facebook is working with Gamesys to offer the new application and they have stated that they do not plan on working with any other operators. However, Facebook is not in a joint venture with Gamesys, so they still have the option to work with other companies for real money gaming opportunities if they so choose.
