William Hill Granted Nevada Gaming License

Britain’s largest bookmaker William Hill PLC, also known simply as Will Hill, made history on Thursday by becoming the first international sportsbook to be granted a gaming license in the state of Nevada.

Regulators from the Nevada Gaming Commission held a hearing earlier in the day with William Hill’s CEO Ralph Topping to review stipulations of the deal and later approved their application with a unanimous vote.

Under the deal William Hill will pay $55 million to acquire several sportsbook operations in northern Nevada and invest millions more in other improvements to make the company even more financially secure in the future.

According to the Las Vegas Review Journal, Jon Asher will also be named the CEO of the new Nevada subsidiary of Will Hill, with Vic Salerno taking over as chairman and chief technology officer.

The state of Nevada recently just made the ground-breaking decision to start granting these unique licenses to hurdle the UIGEA that was passed by Congress in 2006. In fact, Bally’s became the first company to attain a gaming license to run its very own intrastate online poker room.

Bally’s, who acquired Chili Gaming in April of 2012, will be marketing its own online software to Nevada residents in the very near future. It may only be a matter of time before the flood gates open even more and we start seeing even more popular online gaming companies looking to apply for their own licenses.

The only real question is: Who’s NEXT?
