Assembly Bill 114 in the state of Nevada was signed into law yesterday and now interstate online poker is a reality in the state. Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval signed the bill just yesterday and now federal legislation is not needed for interstate agreements. This opens up the state to new opportunities is a positive for online poker in the United States.

The law has a five year ‘bad actor’ provision which will allow companies to move into the online poker market without having to compete with larger companies such as PokerStars. The restriction is for five years and applies to any company that was in operation in the United States with online poker after the UIGEA was put into effect back in 2006.

Assembly Bill 114 was moved through legislation very quickly after Governor Sandoval asked legislatures to move the law forward. Sandoval wanted to quickly have the ability to meet with officials in other states that allow online poker and begin making agreements. The state was also in competition to become the center of online gambling in the US.

New Jersey was working hard as well to pass legislation so Nevada officials work quickly to pass the legislation in both houses with a unanimous vote. A 90 minute hearing took place with the Assembly and Senate Judiciary committees and both houses agreed to pass the bill. The governor then signed it into law, with the process taking just seven hours. Before the bill was signed into law, Sandoval stated: “This is a historic day. This is the day we usher Nevada into the frontier of gaming.”

The new law allows online gambling in the state and will allow residents of the state to play with residents in other areas of the US as well. The option could potential net the state millions of dollars with the fees and licensing process that must take place.
