Daniel Negreanu
Daniel Negreanu was born in Toronto, Ontario in 1974. His parents had moved to Canada from Romania in 1967. Negreanu dropped out of high school just a few credits shy of graduation and began living a life as a rounder. He played at local charity casinos to help him find illegal games in the city. He built up a bankroll and at the young age of 21 headed for Las Vegas. He did not have very much luck at that time and had to return to Canada to build up another bankroll.
At the age of 23 he won two events at the World Poker Finals at Foxwoods winning over $100,000. He was also named the tournament’s best all around player. The next year, in 1998, he won a WSOP bracelet in the $2,000 Pot Limit Hold’em event. He then became the youngest player to win a WSOP bracelet. He continued to hold the title until 1994 when a younger player won a bracelet. From that win he became known as Kid Poker. After this win, Negreanu went on to win two WPT events, two more WSOP bracelets, and play in eleven final tables. He won the titles of World Poker Tour player of the year in 2005 and WSOP player of the year in 2004.
He became a Poker Ambassador for the Wynn Las Vegas when it opened but relieved himself of his duties when he was unable to play in high stakes games outside of the Wynn. He then started his own online poker card room called Full Contact Poker. In June of 2007 Negreanu signed with PokerStars to become a member of Team PokerStars. When he signed with PokerStars, Negreanu changed his site to a forum and information site.
One interesting skill Negreanu has is his ability to read opponents. He has surprised many a competitor by telling them the exact cards they had time and time again. He writes articles for CardPlayer Magazine and was a contributor to Doyle Brunson’s Super System II book. He is a tutor in the subject of poker and has taught many celebrities including Tobey Maguire. He also participates in many televised poker events and as of 2007 had earned over $9 million in live tournament winnings.
