The Largest Live Casino Dealer Operator in the USA Accused of Operating in Black Markets

Evolution Gaming

A direct competitor of Evolution AB is accusing the company of allowing bad actors to use its products and services. However, the owner of Evolution Gaming denies the allegation.

Evolution Gaming is a business-to-business firm and the largest live casino dealer in the USA. The Sweden-based operator has many subsidiaries through which it conducts real money live gambling games worldwide.

An anonymous group, also Evolution Gaming competitor, has filed a lawsuit in New Jersey claiming that Evolution AB is offering its products in black markets. The company claims to have used private investigators to access Evolution live dealer platforms from various black markets. This included countries under the sanctions of the USA.

Bloomberg discovered the anonymous group, going by Calcagni & Kanefsky through its senior counsel Ralph Marra, filed a complaint with the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement at the beginning of this year. The group has presented several serious accusations against Evolution Gaming.

Live dealer games allow online gamblers to play casino games from the comfort of their homes. They interact with a real human dealer while playing live roulette and live blackjack through internet devices.

Evolution Denies Allegations

When Bloomberg asked Evolution to comment about the issue, its spokesperson Carl Linton responded by saying the company complied with all applicable laws and regulations. However, Ralph insists Evolution was found to operate in jurisdictions where gambling is illegal and countries under U.S. sanctions. Bloomberg obtained the letter to the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement and assessed that Evolution was offering its products in Iraq, Syria, and Sudan.

To counter the allegation, Evolution’s spokesperson said the company was a B2B business with no direct connection with players or involvement in handling gambled money. Linton explained that the company instead worked with various online casinos licensed to operate in their host jurisdictions.

To operate in USA jurisdiction, a licensee has to have good character and follow federal and state laws. Evolution is permitted to operate in three U.S. states.

The Allegations Are a Threat to Evolution’s Developing Business

Evolution gaming has gained roots in other countries. But, it is still in its infancy period in the USA market. Thus, if the allegations about the company operating in black markets were true, it would cost the company a lot.

The company offers internet gaming in three states, including Michigan, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. While other companies can offer the same product, Evolution is the most preferred for its unmatched quality and entertaining games.

Evolution gaming does not offer its games directly to players. Instead, the company partners with a licensed online casino to offer live dealer games in a state via a brick-and-mortar casino.

For example, Evolution can partner with ABC, an online casino that offers online gaming through a partnership with a land-based casino. Evolution gets revenue by charging a specific percentage from ABC while ABC keeps the rest of the income.

Evolution can set up casino studios through which it can stream online casino games. The studio can be situated in a physical casino or an independent property if permitted.

With the spread of the COVID-19, more land-based casinos saw the need to have online casinos to cover revenue lost due to the closure of land-based casinos. The pandemic contributed to Evolution’s stock rise by over 450 percent.
