The Terre Haute Casino Resort officially has an opening day set, and it’s going to be a big day for residents of the state of Indiana. Churchill Downs owns the Terre Haute Casino Resort, and it’s no stranger to having a ton of success in this industry.
The casino portion of the resort is set to open up on April 5, and a big celebration is planned to kick things off. Patrons will have to wait a bit before they are able to stay at the resort, as that isn’t set to open up until May 15.
Opening day of the casino will officially be at 10:30 AM on April 5, and the doors are not expected to close after that date. Churchill Downs has announced that it will be a casino in operation 24/7, which is similar to other casinos throughout the state.
The new casino resort is located on the east side of the city, and the outside of the structure is now fully assembled. Further plans about the opening ceremony will be announced in the coming weeks, but the entire city of Terre Haute is behind this project.
It is estimated that the resort will attract over 1.1 million visitors per year, which could create some potential logistical challenges for the city.
Details of the Resort
While the casino is expected to attract patrons to the city, the hotel will provide a first class experience to those looking for accommodations. The hotel portion of the resort is described as a luxury-style hotel, and it will be 10 stories tall.
There will be plenty of space at the new Terre Haute Casino Resort as there will be 125 rooms available to reserve. Like with other casino resorts, there will be plenty of other things to do beyond just visiting the casino.
A conference room is available to rent, and it is expected to attract big business from throughout the state of Indiana. The Terre Haute Casino Resort will have nine different food and drink venues that are located throughout the resort.
The action casino portion of the resort will have over 1,000 slot machines and 34 gaming tables. Churchill Downs has experience in the casino industry, and it will create a terrific experience for the customers.
Not an Easy Process
It was not an easy process to get the Terre Haute Casino Resort built in the state, and that sort of mirrors the process to get casino gambling legalized in this state. Indiana has had traditional casino gambling since 2015 after a law that required riverboat casino gambling was removed.
It looked as if Terre Haute was going to get a new casino a few years ago, but there were a number of hiccups along the way. Spectacle Entertainment initially tried to build a casino back in 2018, but that was quickly aborted.
Churchill Downs was selected to receive the casino license back in 2021, and the construction has been slower than most would have liked.
