The World Poker Tour will be back in land-based casinos in full starting January 2021.
Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood announced on Monday that they would be joining forces with the WPT to host the popular tournament Lucky Hearts Poker Open. The event is to take place in its regular January slot and will offer several events, most notably the $3,500 Main Event that should reward more than $1 million in guaranteed prizes.
Moreover, WPT announced its first online Main Tour event, which will feature the $3,500 WPT Online Poker Open Main Event. The starting date for that tournament will be in late December, and it should award approximately $1 million in guaranteed prizes to New Jersey residents.
Live WPT Back to Poker Rooms
The ongoing pandemic has made 2020 a particular long year for people around the world, especially live poker players who were left with no options all of a sudden. While it’s not a full-blown return to normalcy, holding live poker events will make things seem a bit more like they are supposed to be.
Players should mark Jan. 22 in their calendars, as that’s when the Lucky Hearts Poker Open Main Event will start. It will last for three days — Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. That’s when we’ll have an opportunity to see a champion emerge.
The entire Lucky Hearts festival will start on Jan. 14 and last for 12 days. Apart from the Main Event, it will also offer a multi-flight opening event that costs $600 to play and offers $300,000 in guaranteed prizes. In addition to the main event, there will also be several non-NLHE tournaments, which will cost around $400 to play.
Lucky Hearts will offer four additional events where each will offer six-figure guaranteed prizes.
Health and Safety Protocols to Be Followed
According to the Monday press release by Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open, the venue will make sure that all health and safety protocols are in place. All guests will have their temperature scanned upon entrance, and face masks will be required for all visitors. Moreover, all tables will feature protective plexiglass between players and the dealer. There will be plexiglass in between players as well. Each table will be eight-handed, and the total number of tables in the room will be reduced to encourage social distancing.
Finally, all chips and cards will be thoroughly and regularly cleaned. All playing areas will be sanitized once a player leaves the game. The poker room also made sure to make face masks and hand sanitizers available for all guests.

The first WPT online tournament will be the Online Poker Open, and the main event will take place on Dec. 17-19 on partypoker US Network, meaning it will be available to the residents of New Jersey.
