Borgata Hotel Casino Completes $55 Million Renovation Ahead of Anniversary Celebration in July

Earlier this year, Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City announced it was remodeling its Water Club Tower. The $55 million project is the first in ten years.

Borgata was the richest casino in Atlantic City after earning over $700 million in gross gaming revenue. Despite being the highest earner in the city, Borgata`s hotel rooms did not generate as much as they used to do before the Coronavirus pandemic hit the hospitality industry. This could be one of the reasons Borgata decided to revamp its premises to present a new more inviting look to visitors.

The casino operator also wanted to make two decades of operation by spending $55 million on renovation. Now, the newly renovated hotel is ready for occupancy following an announcement made through the Borgata AC Twitter account.

Hotel Revamps

Borgata made its debut on July 2, 2003. At the time, the property was owned by Boyd Gaming and MGM.

In May 2016, MGM spent $900 million to buy a 50 percent stake that Boyd had in the casino. The property has since become the best-earning gaming property in Atlantic City.

During the renovation announcement in March, Borgata’s COO said that his company was committed to remaining the best in the hospitality and entertainment industry. Travis Lunn said that it was crucial to advance the Borgata experience to remain the leader in the industry.

Part of the plan was to revamp the check-in area and include a valet. The casino would also revamp the outdoor and indoor pools and include luxe shopping for guests. But this was just the second phase of renovations.

Initially, MGM gave Lunn $10 million when he was promoted to take his new leadership role at Borgata Atlantic City in January.

Lunn formerly led operations at the Beau Rivage in Biloxi Mississippi and Gold Strike in Tunica. He used the $10 million to revamp the casino floor and added more slot machines to the floor.

With the latest renovations, Borgata now has 700 new look hotel rooms. The hotel tower is also home to 40 Vista Suites, the casino`s most luxurious rooms.

Each room features a nautical design. They have enough light and are airy. The decorator chose bright but warm décor, featuring a nautical palette of blue hues and wood finishes.

Ideally, the feel and look of the rooms are inspired by Marina District. Meanwhile, the Water Club Tower will now go by MGM Tower.

Borgata Remain the Market Leader

There are nine casinos in Atlantic City. Borgata was the most lucrative after earning 26 percent of the market’s total earnings. The property earned $slightly over $724 million, with Hard Rock coming second with only $492 million.

Borgata continues to be the market leader despite Hard Rock and Ocean Casino opening in July 2018. Bill Hornbuckle, the CEO of MGM Resorts International, recognized that these new properties were competition. However, he was glad that his company remained the top-earning property.
