The New Jersey online casino and online poker market is one of the biggest in the entire country, but an operator has just made an announcement to leave the state. 888 Holdings will be leaving the state of New Jersey, and that will take the 888poker website from players in the state.
This is not an immediate move, but the 888poker room is going to be gone from the state for good on June 3rd. Those players that are currently an active customer on 888poker will need to remove their funds before that final date or else that money will be lost.
888poker is currently offering online poker through the Hard Rock Digital license, and that license will remain open after this website leaves. Hard Rock Bet has become a big name in the iGaming industry, but it’s only offering online sports betting and an online casino.
This was not a move that was shocking to those that keep a close eye on the industry, but it did come as a shock to players within the state. 888 Holdings just wasn’t making enough money in the state of keep the online poker room open, especially since it has done really well over in the UK.
No Harm to WSOP
The World Series of Poker is no longer just a massive in-person event as there are online WSOP tournaments as well. In fact, the WSOP tournaments are going to get even bigger moving forward, and this move from 888 Holdings is not going to impact that change.
WSOP has used software developed by 888 Holdings, and there is actually a plan to upgrade the servers moving forward. There will still be some ties to 888 with the new version that is available, but it can also operate on its own.
Players in New Jersey that are gearing up for the top WSOP online events are going to be even more excited later this month. That’s because Michigan players are going to get thrown in the mix as well, joining players from New Jersey and Nevada.
That change is going to come later this month, just in time for the top 2024 WSOP online tournaments to get going. Losing 888poker is going to be a big change to players in New Jersey, but it won’t impact the biggest and best tournament schedule of the year.

888 Holdings was actually able to hang around in the United States much longer that some of the other top operators from the UK. This isn’t the first time that an online poker room has shut down in New Jersey, but it is the first time in more than a decade.
