DraftKings is set to begin the development of a $10 million expansion project at Casino Queen. The casino made this announcement on June 1, 2021. The casino is situated at East St Louis III in Illinois.
The $10 million plan comprises a new wagering facility and several dining options. Essentially, there will be several fast-food joints plus one multi-service restaurant just a few steps away from Casino Queen. The casino is expecting the project to complete in six months and open to the public after that.
Casino Queen is a 38,000 square feet facility. It has 29 table games and almost 1000 slot machines. Apart from this, the property will have another 30,000 square feet facility featuring DraftKings’ retail sportsbook.
This will be designed as lounge-style seating with high-quality televisions on the walls. The multi-service restaurant will also have a bar.
DraftKings at Casino Queen is partnering with JCJ Architecture to develop the $10 million project. This firm has also developed other properties, including Seneca Niagara, Resorts World in New York City, the Mohegan Sun situated at Pocono Downs, Seneca Allegany, and Resorts World Catskills.
The Expansion Is Motivated by Sports Betting
Giving his statement, the casino’s president and CEO said that sports betting contributed to the need for the casino to expand. Terry Downey said that sports wagering had propelled Illinois gaming. He added that it was the reason DraftKings at casino queen is expanding the facility to create room for the growing sports wagering industry in the state.
According to the casino’s president, DraftKings and the casino queen plans to offer an unmatched gaming experience in the region. Terry noted that DraftKings is an innovative sportsbook. He said the combination of the bookie’s services and new dining facilities would definitely create an exceptional experience.
Casino queen was established in 1993. However, in July 2020, the casino changed its official name to DraftKings at casino queen to meet the 2019 added gaming law. During that year, lawmakers passed a bill requiring casinos to incorporate their sports betting provider into the casino’s trademark to offer mobile sports betting.
Fairmont Park in Collinsville also made a parallel change. It rebranded after partnering with FanDuel to go by FanDuel Sportsbook and Horse Racing.
The Development Is One of the Newest Investment the Casino Has Made
The $10 million development is one of the latest projects Casino Queen Holdings has invested in. Late last year, the casino bought two gaming facilities. First, it purchased the Belle of Baton Rouge from Caesars Entertainment on December 1.
But, the buying agreement allowed the casino to take over gaming assets and operations while Gaming and Leisure Properties Inc. reserved real estate ownership.
Two weeks later, the brand purchased Hollywood Casino Baton Rouge from Gaming and Leisure Properties Inc. However, this purchase also came with another agreement. Ideally, Casino Queen decided to rent the Hollywood Casino Baton Rouge and DraftKings at Casino Queen from Gaming and Leisure Properties Inc. for 15 years.
Another property that the brand owns is the Casino Queen Marquette in Lowa. It is also a riverboat facility across the Mississippi River from Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. It has 566 slot machines and eight table games.
