Iowa Bill Could Potentially Legalize Internet Poker

A new bill proposed in the state of Iowa will allow those over twenty one to engage in internet poker and other online gambling activities. If the bill passes, would-be online poker players would be able to create accounts at state-regulated casinos and then log in to online poker tables at particular websites.

According to The Des Moines Register, the bill is gaining popularity among casino lobbyists, who claim the illegal online casino use is frequent and that the state is losing out on the tax revenue that legal online gaming would allow. While online gambling is illegal in the US, states can decide to chose to legalize it so long as the gambling does not cross state lines.

Currently there is a bill in New Jersey that is approved and awaiting the governor to sign off on it. Furthermore, similar bills are pending in both Florida as well as California.
