For eight teams in the NBA, their time on the floor in 2019-20 has reached an early end, and they will not be invited to Disney World to play. So, it’s all about two things for them right now. Staying in shape and finding things to keep you busy and entertained. For Warriors big man Marquese Chriss, he’s joined the rap game.
That’s right. Young Warriors center Marquese Chriss released a rap song over the weekend detailing his upbringing and his life during high school. The song was titled “I Remember,” and it features 2kkhari in it, as well. The song can be heard by clicking this link.
About the Song
This track released by Chriss, who goes by the stage name of Quese, talks about his past. In it, he discusses the days when Obama was in office, and how he was struggling to produce good grades. He goes into detail about how it all still feels so fresh to him.
The coolest part of this is that the story follows a unique arc. He pulls the listener in with a fantastic beat and a catchy tune right from the get-go. It also helps that he was able to get a second rapper in there with him to assist with the song.
His YouTube channel has only 25 subscribers so far, but there are apparently several other tracks that he’s placed on his channel. Chriss may be hoping to have a dual career with hooping and making songs. He certainly would not be the first.
Other NBA Players to Release Songs Over the Years
Chriss is certainly not the first NBA player to put a song out there during his career. Damian Lillard has done a fantastic job of making full-length albums and has collaborated with several big-name rappers. His future in the industry seems to be huge.
Among those other players who have released songs include Joe Smith (Joe Beast), Iman Shumpert, Lou Williams, Kobe Bryant, and Shaquille O’Neal. Shump made a song about his Cavs teammates before one of their playoff runs called, The Offs.
Joe Smith’s song was about his Hawks team ahead of a playoff run as well. It was the longest of any of the other songs, as he found a way to rhyme words with each and every one of his teammates’ name. He was the #1 pick in 1995 and spent many years in the league.
Shaq had a rap career in the ’90s and ’00s and has exchanged diss tracks with Damian Lillard in recent months. Marvin Bagley also made one.
Will We See More from Chriss?
It is unclear if this will be the one song we see from Marquese during this offseason, but there could be more. This one track shows us that his storytelling ability is as fantastic as his dunking ability.
Chriss’ Warriors will not be on the court again until November, so that does leave plenty of time for him to decide if he wants to make more. We’ll have to see how the final results of this song come up. It would be neat to see Chriss play another for us.
