The International Stadiums Poker Tour has continued to face media scrutiny after the many changes that have been made to the tournament format as well as features. More changes have now been made to the new tour and Dusk Till Dawn have announced they are supporting the group and helping to offer a guaranteed €1 million for the first place finisher of the tour event this June.
The new tour, created by the troubled Groupe Partouche, was first under fire for the so-called €30 million guaranteed prize pool, or was it €20 million? Partouche did not seem to know and players as well as the media called the group out on it. The brand eventually decided to state there was and never had been a guarantee and the €20 million prize pool was just an ‘estimate’.
Now, it has been announced that Dusk Till Dawn has partnered with the International Stadiums Poker Tour and will be licensing and operating the tournament. The tournament is now offering a guaranteed €1 million prize for the first place finisher despite the final prize pool. This is good news for players but may be bad news for DTD.
The tournament has already held live satellites, at several online poker rooms, and these satellites bombed. A few had to be rescheduled due to the fact that only a handful of players showed up to compete. This could be a sign of what is to come and if a large prize pool is not created with the June 1st event at Wembley Conference Centre, then DTD may end up paying a pretty penny to meet the guaranteed first place prize.
Rob Yong, the owner of Dusk Till Dawn, seems excited at the prospect of working with the ISPT, Yong commented:
“Organizing the Caribbean Poker Party in St Kitts has whet our appetite for more adventures outside of our four walls. ISPT’s revised format is a lot like a supersized version of our own Grand Prix which is my favorite tournament concept.”
Overall, 20% of the prize pool will go to the winner and the remaining 80% will be given to players. A large number of players will need to enter the tournament to keep DTD from paying out a large amount of cash for the winner to earn the guaranteed amount. It will be interesting to see if the turnout meets the requirements or if the tour continues to have issues, since it seems to be doomed from the start.
