There is news of yet another online poker room closing with little notice. Fortune Poker posted a notice on their website this week declaring that they would close at the end of the month. Fortune Poker is a member of the International Poker Network (IPN). Fortune Poker has been online since 2004. They launched on Boss Media, which later became IPN.
In a message to players on the Fortune Poker website, members are instructed that they will be able to play until 23:59 GMT on March 31st. The software will still be available on April 1st and 2nd, but only for players to initiate withdrawals. All rakeback and other promotional payments will be made on April 1st to player accounts. The Fortune Poker staff will be available until April 15th. Any Fortune Poker issues after that date will be addressed by the network.
Fortune Poker is banked by IPN so there is no danger to player funds. If players miss the deadline to initiate a cashout through Fortune Poker then they may contact the network’s cashier to receive their money.
This is not the first IPN skin to close recently. PokerKings closed with two weeks notice last month. The network is in a slow decline. IPN has lost one-third of its players over the past six months. A trend that has continued for years. The only boost to traffic in recent memory was the Bad Beat Jackpot that got over €1 million. As soon at the jackpot was hit, the traffic went back to its previous numbers. According to Pokerscout, IPN peaks at about 750 players and averages 330 players. This puts IPN in 26th place in terms of online poker traffic.
IPN is beginning to look like the old Cryptologic Network. That network saw skins close or move to larger networks one by one as traffic collapsed. The network eventually closed its doors and Interpoker, its flagship, moved to IPN. If the attrition continues, IPN may find a similar fate.
