Prospective UIGEA Online Gambling Regulations Released!

October 1, 2007

UIGEANew Regulations for the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act were released today by the Department of the Treasury and the Federal Reserve Board after missing the 270 day deadline imposed when it was originally passed.

Due to government protocol, which allows for public feedback, these UIGEA regulations will not go into effect until sometime in 2008. The U.S. government is accepting public feedback about the rules starting immediately with the deadline being Dec. 12th 2007.

After the Dec. 12th deadline, the government will take up to another 180 days to read all the comments left. Part of the reason for the reading is that they are supposed to adjust the rules according to the public sentiment. Only after this period will the UIGEA go into effect. It has almost been a year since U.S. lawmakers added the UIGEA to the Port Security bill and got it through the Senate.

You can read all the UIGEA regulations in official press release.
