Online Gambling Proposal IGREA Gets Another Co-Sponsor
March 17, 2008
New York Congressman Tim Bishop is the latest to sign up as a co-sponsor the Barney Frank’s proposal to regulate the online gambling industry. This brings the total co-sponsors of the Internet Gambling Regulation and Enforcement Act (IGREA) to 47.
Congressman Tim Bishop serves on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, the Education and the Labor Committee and the Budget Committee. Now in his third term, Bishop’s co-sponsorship comes as reversal to his voting for UIGE A of 2006. Congressman Bishop is the second to co-sponsor this proposal this year.
IGREA is one of several proposals that are being proposed that would address the U.S. stance on online gambling and bring the U.S. closer to World Trade Organization compliance as well as bringing in the potential of billions of dollars in revenues and licensing fees.
