Poker History: First WSOP Bracelet Outsde USA is Awarded

WSOPE Bracelet WinnerThe first ever WSOP bracelet outside of the US was awarded today and Thomas “Buzzer” Bihl will go down in poker history as the first winner in the WSOPE.

The Frankfurt, Germany native who started his poker playing career just four years ago won 70, 875 pounds Sterling and possibly more valuable the WSOP bracelet and bragging rights as the first ever poker player to win one outside Las Vegas.

WSOP Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack said, "Thomas Bihl has earned a place in poker history with this incredible win. The fact that he is a Betfair player, when Betfair is our presenting sponsor, makes this even sweeter."

It took a 13 hour final table for Thomas Bihl to win his first ever bracelet and he beat a stellar final table to get there. Jennifer Harman, a Full Tilt Poker pro, finished second after giving up a 2-1 chip advantages. It would have been Harman’s third bracelet. Another WSOP bracelet winner, Kirk Morrison, finished third and winning 28, 500 pounds Sterling, a five time WSOP bracelet winner, Chris Ferguson, also of Full Tilt, finished fourth and 21, 656 pounds Sterling. Fifth went to Alex Kravchenko as he collected 17, 714 pounds Sterling, 14, 438 pounds Sterling and sixth place went to Yuval Bronshstein, Joe Beevers finished seventh and received 11, 812 pounds sterling and Gary Jones finished eighth and got 9,118 pounds Sterling. A total of 262,500 pounds Sterling was paid out to the top 16 finishers out of the total 105 entrants.

The WSOPE consists of three events total. The Main Event is a $10,000 pound Sterling buy-in with an expected 750 player field. It will be a six day tournament spread out over three casinos and has an estimated prize pool of 7.4 pound Sterling million.
