Both Teams Coming Off Of Epic Seasons
Clemson is coming off a 30-3 demolition of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish to punch their ticket to the title game. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence was spectacular, going 27 for 39 for 327 yards and 3 touchdowns with no interceptions. Travis Etienne was the main guy in the run game, turning 14 carries into 109 yards and a touchdown and he also lost a fumble. The defense was suffocating all game long, holding the Irish to 248 total yards and forced 2 turnovers.
The Crimson Tide are coming off of a 45-34 shootout victory over the Oklahoma Sooners last week. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa looked perfectly fine coming off of his ankle injury. Tua went 24 for 27 for 318 yards and 4 touchdowns and did not have an interception. Josh Jacobs and Damien Harris shared the load in the backfield. Jacobs turned 15 carries into 98 yards and Harris went for 48 yards and 2 touchdowns on 13 carries. Three Crimson Tide players went for over 60 receiving yards in the game. Devonta Smith caught 6 passes for 104 yards, Jerry Jeudy caught 4 passes for 73 yards, and running back Josh Jacobs added 60 yards on 4 catches. Smith, Jeudy, and Jacobs each had a receiving touchdown and Henry Ruggs III added a receiving touchdown as well.
These Teams Are A Good Match For Each Other
Clemson has been one of the best teams on both sides of the ball all season long. The offense is averaging 44.3 points a game and 530.4 total yards per game. They average 274.1 passing yards and 256.3 rushing yards each game. The defense has also been incredible, allowing only 13.7 points a game and 276.7 total yards a game. Alabama has also been one of the best in both sides of the ball and has numbers that are very similar to Clemson’s. The offense puts up 47.7 points a game and 527.6 total yards a game. They throw for 325.6 yards a game and average 202 yards on the ground. The defense allows just 14.8 points a game and 295.4 total yards a game. They allow opponents to throw for 178.4 yards and run for 117 yards a game. The key piece for the Crimson Tide has been Heisman finalist Tua Tagovailoa. Tua has thrown for 3671 yards and 41 touchdowns and just 4 interceptions on the year. The best receiver on the Crimson Tide is Jerry Jeudy who has 63 receptions for 1176 yards and 13 touchdowns. Damien Harris is the leading rusher and he has ran for 819 yards and 9 touchdowns. Josh Jacobs is also a big contributor in the run game.
Clemson vs. Alabama Prediction
Alabama comes in at -5.5. Alabama’s defense will have to play better if they want to win this game. Clemson’s offense is just as good as Oklahoma’s so that will be a major challenge. The difference is that the Clemson defense is spectacular so Alabama will not be able to score as easily as they did against Oklahoma. This will be a close game throughout and expect it to come down to the wire with Clemson taking the victory straight up. Take Clemson +5.5.
