MLB Betting Preview: Detroit Tigers at Seattle Mariners

Detroit has been atrocious this year, and they have been unable to beat any teams in the majors. The worst part of their poor record, though, is that you have to feel so bad for Ron Gardenhire. He is a tremendous baseball manager who has had an impressive career, but here he is managing the Tigers, who are looking to make some history with a level of poor play we have not seen in the past few years.

Seattle, on the other hand, is content to keep the losses rolling in now to improve for the future. They sold off multiple assets before the season began and have continued to do so as it has gone on. These guys never managed to qualify for the postseason while at their peak, no matter how good the record they had, a team would always find a way to usurp them and get in. This is a serious work in progress.

Tigers Look For A Rare Win

They are 37 games under .500, and through almost 100 games, not a single player on this squad has driven in 40 runs yet. The bright side for them has to be that Miguel Cabrera has finally been able to stay healthy after a rough few years, but they lack hitting. Three players in the lineup are hitting better than .250 on the season folks, and that is all. Matthew Boyd, the 28-year-old pitcher, seems to be their only decent starting pitcher, and his name has been dangled in trade rumors all year. They have one of the game’s most exciting closers in Shane Greene, but he does not get many chances.

Starting pitching has been very bad for Detroit outside of the aforementioned Boyd, highlighted by the woes of former Nats pitcher Jordan Zimmermann. He has gone 0-7 with an ERA of nearly 8.00 in his first 12 starts. The news isn’t much better for the likes of their other starters.

Mariners Needing Some Positivity

There have been quite a few disappointments on this still talented Mariners team. In limited opportunities this year, we have seen Kyle Seager bat just .190. Mitch Haniger has struggled, along with the likes of Mallex Smith, Tim Beckham, and Ryon Healy. Their offense is led by the 23 dingers of DH Daniel Vogelbach, who has been impressive for them. He is one of the lone offensive bright spots, along with the hard-hitting Domingo Santana.

The game has not been kind to the Mariners this year, and the baseball Gods seem to have been against them since their successful campaign back in 2001. So many things have gone wrong for them over the past two decades, and perhaps a strong finish to the season could help them out.

M’s Pick Up Opening Victory

We’re riding with the Mariners in tonight’s game. Make sure you place your bets on them as the Tigers will fall to 30-68. There is nothing for them to do to improve much this year.
